4/30/2023 0 Comments Playonmac other screen![]() High Sierra is still a completely fine OS, there's no truly compelling need to upgrade from it as long as it's working for you (it received its latest security update in Nov 2020 so it's still acceptable in that respect). And it's the very latest version of MacOS which still includes 32-bit support which is necessary to run the "Mac" version of LOTRO. Mojave is a very good OS, is still receiving critical security updates, and full Safari updates. I don't know which MacBook Air you are using but if it can be upgraded to 10.14 Mojave, I suggest you do that first. ![]() You are running 10.13 which is High Sierra. You could install it on your current system if you wish. The current "Mac" installer (I put it in quotation marks because it doesn't create a Mac application once the install is complete, it is the LOTRO Windows client in a WINE wrapper) works very well on pre-Catalina versions of MacOS. Hi, Sinord! It gives me a lot of satisfaction to learn that something I wrote here helped someone. being the absolute novice at computer and program lingo that I am, I was wondering what would be a simple and easy-to-understand way to update, but still be able to play? I would be happy to provide you more info if need be. I have not updated my Macbook Air (which is currently in version 10.13.6) for a long time due to Catalina's limitations. Welcome back! And let me know if you need any help with the install or getting the game to run, I'll do my best to help. I suggest you read Message #17 in that thread as the process described there is important for getting the "Mac"/WINE client to work as well (minus the parts specifically relating to Crossover, of course). describing my experiments with LOTRO and Crossover. Crossover costs money but has a 2-week free trial. With Crossover, you install the standard Windows client and Crossover provides the 32-bit compatibility layer so the game will run even in post-Mojave versions of MacOS. The other option is to use Codeweaver's Crossover, which is essentially the "pro" version of WINE. You'll just need to keep a Mojave boot volume and reboot to that in order to play the game. If you want to upgrade to Catalina or Big Sur, you can do so. ![]() Post-Mojave versions of MacOS do not have 32-bit support. All versions of MacOS up to and including Mojave have 32-bit support. It has 32-bit components so it must be used under a version of MacOS with 32-bit support. That will install the Windows client in a WINE wrapper. The game runs great in Mojave! Just download the "Mac" installer here: A while back I was able to play with Wine running Mojave.
